My kayak collapsed
— by AnthonyH AnthonyH
I recently purchased my first sit on top kayak it's a 2006 Pelican eclipse  other than  hard plastic seat back it is a nice kayak I loaded it up the other day before I went to work so I can stop off at the pond on my way home and try it out I was in the water but 10 minutes when I noticed something wasn't quite right the seat felt weird but I couldn't tell anything from where I was the next day I took it out again and felt the same issue this time it looked like the kayak had collapsed in on itself just behind my left hip so I immediately went to shore got out of the kayak and watched that section pop back up to its original shape I contacted Pelican to see if they had any ideas as to why this was doing it or if this was a common thing with this they had nothing other than to suggest it was in the Sun for too long and the plastic had softened so for the next 2 days I kept it in the shade on my 3 season porch I took it out for another try tonight and it was holding it had not shifted or collapsed at alluntil about 45 to 50 minutes in  then  behind my seat back the other side of my dry storage and in front of it the top of the kayak collapsed in the sun was already setting when I launched into the water at 7:30 tonight and it was about 8:15 when I felt it shift it doesn't collapse enough to let water over the side and start to sink I would just like to know if there's something that can be done to prevent this any ideas would be greatly appreciated
